what town in the cappadocia region is the best to stay in?

We are visiting Cappadocia in August and will be staying for three nights. Where is the most convenient place to stay?

Goreme is at the centre of things - a short walk to the Open Air Museum and in amongst the hiking valleys. It's a village that's quite touristy now, but still maintains its character, I like it. Definitely the most convenient for 3 nights.

You have a few options: Urgup, Mustafapasa, Avanos, Goreme, and Uchisar. It all depends on whether you prefer to stay in a place that's a bit more touristy or not so much, some place more rustic or perhaps more central, having views and beautiful walks, etc. Visitors have written trip reports after having stayed in various towns, if you want to reach their comments. Alternatively, you could pick up a decent guide book which highlights the nearby sites, restaurants, and hotel options. I hope you have a great trip!

Really sorry to the OP. I meant to type "read their comments," not reach their comments. Good grief - must be getting late in the day.

Unless you plan on renting a car, Göreme is the place to stay, as it's in the centre of everything, within walking distance to many beautiful valleys and the open air museum, there are lots of restaurants around and public transport connections are also fairly good. You have excellent views here (maybe second to Uchisar only) and you can find both touristy spots here and also quiet rustic areas where local people go about their everyday business.
