After Cappadocia where to - we have 3 nights/2 days spare

Just planning our trip (next year unfortunately) but we have some extra time in Turkey and would like to add another destination. Currently Istanbul (5 days) & Cappadocia (3 days).

No long bus journeys please. But if the journey is for say 4 hours +- that would be OK.

Direct flight would be preferable

I cannot find any destination in Turkey that we can fly to direct from Keyseri or Nevsehir other than Istanbul. I have even tried Skyscanner for Anatalya but cannot find the direct flights referred to above in the top questions.

Would prefer a coastal destination but some other interesting area inland would also be OK. Just want to get a mix of destinations to get a good feel of Turkey (even though we really don't have that much time).

Many thanks in advance for your suggestions.

You could catch a 2.5 hour bus from Kayseri or Nevsehir to Yozgat then hire a taxi driver for a day to take you to the 5000 year old unesco ruins of the capital of the Hittite empire Hattusas located just across the border in Corum.

Return back to Yozgat then catch another 2.5 hour bus to Ankara to visit the current day capital of the republic of Turkey which also has a vast history with many attractions on offer worthy of visiting such as the Ankara castle, Aleaddin mosque, Rahmi Koc museum, Haci bayram mosque, Temple of Augustus ruins, Roman baths, Ulus district, Kizilay, Museum of Anatolian civilisations, Independance museum, Republic museum etc

Another option would be to take a 2.5 hour bus from Nevsehir or Kayseri to Konya to visit the wonderful Seljuk capital with its wonderful offerings such as the Mevlana museum, dervish ceremony

From there catch an hour bus to Beysehir to visit the unesco listed marvelous wooden Esrefoglu mosque

These are but 2 of many alternatives on offer

Thanks, sometimes you just need someone to direct you and you have certainly given me some openings which I will research further.

How would you get back to Instanbul from these cities? I know from Ankara this would be a flight, but Beysehir looks interesting, I read about it in another post. How would you get back to Instanbul from there? Thanks again.

As you said there are direct flights to/from Ankara to most cities in Turkey.

From Beysehir simply make your way back to Konya, from Konya you can then catch a direct flight to istanbul.

If you have time up your sleeves you could take the fast train from Konya to Ankara (1.5 hours at 25 lira) and then take the fast train from Ankara to Istanbul (3.5 hours at 70 lira) that is due to commence operations in the next few months. There is a Havas shuttle service across Ankara train station that goes to the airport (45 minutes at 10 lira).

If you want to get to the coastal areas and around Antalya you couldd take a bus to Ankara and then get a direct flight to Antalya airport..next year who knows there could be direct flights available from either nevsehir or kayseri to antalya

right now there are direct flights available with Pegasus airlines and sun-express but only on certain days of the week that are available

Another option would be Izmir for Selcuk & Ephesus. Then you can fly back to Istanbul.

Do you know what days of the week? Just for planning purposes. Thanks

We thought of going to see Ephesus but I like to balance a holiday with a variety of experiences, and as we are also planning to go to Jordan thought we might be seeing too many historic ruins. Just a personal thing.

Antalya looks good as we haven't got a Turkish beach destination planned.
