" Booking trips Rep or DIY "

We always book our own trips, the prices

the holiday firm reps are normally over the

top.

We were in the co-opertive travel agency today,

I noticed some leaflets advertising trips you

could book with the travel agency in advance.

What took my attention was the Jeep Safari

from Fethiye.

Prices:-

Jeep Safari ................ Adult ....... £53 ............

...................( 3-12yrs ) Child........ £27.............

Fethiye Fraser has done a thread on Trip prices

for 2011.

Jeep Safari ................. Adult ....... £15 ............

A good mark up for travel company.

They are also offering Turkish bath at :-

Adult ....... £30 ............

( 3-12yrs ) ........Child ...... £15 ............

The cost for a family would make a big hole

in the spending money they have.

Like FF said book a number of trips together &

barter for a discount, don't take the 1st price

offered, shop around.

Last year the tours / trips were sold at shops

in the main street of Calis, & from kiosks on

the promenade. We got some good deals &

there were only 2 of us.

Like I said, ridiculous prices - look at the boat trip from Bodrum at £43 per person. Less than half the price when booked with one of the travel agencies in Bodrum. I know that that's an AI price - £10 if you book non-AI in Gumbet.

Then you get some of the reps saying you should book with them as it means you'll be insured. Well, the travel agencies are insured too as they are with Tursab. It really is a rip off.

Hi Jakkigers,

You are quite right, the reps always come

with the insurance excuse.

Has you know they have to sell trips to keep

their job.

Last time we were in Gumbet, we stopped in

the Simba, been told its gone down hill since.

We used to go out on boat trips with a lady

from preston, married to a Turkish man, who

had their boat moored on Gumbet beach.

Some great times, camel beach etc.

Good reminder Yorkie -

There will always be someone who believes the reps and holiday firm BS about how good/safe/etc their trips are, hopefully everyone who looks at TA and other travel advice forums will be better aware of the rip offs, but sadly there are still plenty of visitors who fall prey to their glib sales pitch.

Worth bumping this post regularly to warn newbies.

Yes it is true, booking with the Reps is a lot more expensive. The one defence in their corner, is the Travel Companies pay such terrible wages, they need the commission to get their money up to a better rate.

So perhaps that is why, they tell a few little `Porkies`

Hi LulabellSheff

Yes the reps telling porkies ( lies ) may help them.

But when a family have may have been saving up

for 12 months to 2 years for a holiday, they don't

deserve to be swindled out of their hard saved

money.

I am sure Yorkie, people can decide how & when to spend their Money. I am sure they are not so Stupid to be swindled out their money. Unless of course they have more money than sense.

I was just trying to put this issue from another point of view, the Reps have to be seen to be trying to sell the trips, other wise they, end up in trouble. If people buy from them, then surely they have decided that them selves. In any case, this is not unique to Turkey, its the same in holiday destination.

I get your point LullabellSheff,

But then you must respect my point in

that the travel firms who sell the trips

should give a fair price on the trips.

Then they would perhaps get more customers,

but no, they want to bleed the public.

I think the most noticable difference between booking with a rep or locally is when you are on a boat trip. You sail into a swimming stop on your locally booked boat having checked how many people they carry and enjoying a relaxed trip ,when up comes the dreaded reps trip filled to the gunels and blairing loud music.Time for a quick exit.
