Gocek...beaches and 'must-dos'

I read an earlier post that said there was no beach at Gocek with the exception of D Resort. Do you know if you can pay to use that beach? Is it possible to walk/run to a neighbouring beach?

We want to do an island boat trip and go to Fethiye... Other than that, are there any 'must-sees'? Happy to venture a bit away from Gocek if necessary. Many thanks in advance.

How long are you in Gocek for and where are you staying?

That's right, there is no beach in Gocek, apart from the D Resort and yes you can pay to use it, but it costs an arm and a leg!! You can take the little boat that goes over to Gocek Island - that has a small but very pretty beach and the stones on the edge of the water seem to make a small natural pool! You can also get into the water via steps down from the jetty and there is a small cafe.

There is a nice beach along the coast towards Fethiye - the Council used to run a small "tractor train" to the beach, but haven't for a few years now. You can walk quite a way along the front starting from Port Gocek/D Marin towards Club Marina. Or take a couple of buses to Dalyan - that has a most beautiful long, sandy beach with a turtle rescue centre at the dolmus end (ie the end the dolmus from Dalyan goes to - the other end being the end where tthe boats from Dalyan go!)

Must do's - on your first day take the little boat over to Club Marina and go to the hamam (Turkish bath), boat leaves basically every half hour from Skopea Marina (near Can and Limon Restaurants). Otherwise just chill out and enjoy the natural beauty of the Bay!

Hi there, thank you for all this information. We are staying in an apartment at Gocek vineyards for a week. Your suggestions are great - will definitely take the boat and go to see the turtles. Fingers crossed that the weather is good!

the Vineyard is at the Fethiye end of the main road. If you walk down the road into town from the petrol station at that end, as you approach the outskirts of the village there is a restaurant on the Left hand side called Natural which - in past years at least! - has been nice with value for money good Turkish food, and a lovely garden setting with some "kosks" you can sit in (raised wooden structures with big cushions to sit on,) There is also a kiddies rec/play area just next door - in case you have any young'uns in tow!

Sounds good we will give that a try. Is it far from the marina and town? It didn't look that far...

I suppose the village and marina would be about 20 - 30 mins stroll, depending on how far back in the development you were. Just take the road that goes down the side of the petrol station - this leads you straight down to the main square by the Mosque, D Marin Resort (ex Swisshotel). In fact another lovely restaurant that will be along your route is the family run Palm - the very best grilled meats - lamb chops, kofte, Adana kebabs etc. here - with tables in an orange grove (just at the back of the smaller Migros supermarket - there is a larger one at the other end of the town).

There is a fairly new beach club across the bay from Frenchay (same ferry as for the Turkish bath, then turn right out of Club Marina). Also, there is a free beach with a small cafe at Inlice, a short bus ride from the Vineyard. Either get a taxi or take the Fethiye bus from the Total Garage (about 5-10 past every hour) and ask for Inlice Plac (pronounced Plaj). The bus driver will drop you just before the bus leaves the main road to go into Inlice village. The beach is about 1km down a mainly shaded road.

Are you interested in historical sites? If so, and if you go to Dalyan, as someone else has suggested, then include a visit to Kaunos, a big Roman site just across the river from Dalyan. IHowever, at this time of year it will be hot.

If you are hiring a car, then consider going on a Friday and going to Ortaca on your way to Dalyan. It is a much more Turkish town and on Fridays has two huge markets. The fruit and veg market is wonderful (and much cheaper than Gocek).
