Marmaris Advice Wanted

Hi all,

There are four of us going to Blue Bays Deluxe Hotel (all inclusive)in Marmaris 5th-12th June 2011 (2 young couples).

We would like any advice you can give on best places to go, things to see, boat trips, excursions, hidden gems etc and also things to avoid?

Thanks in advance for your replies. Any little think will be helpful.

Hi there

First of all your hotel is in a good location. Theres lots of bars/restaurants/shops right on the door step and you are a stones throw from Long Beach which becomes very lively. To help you get your bearings a little click on the link and you will see a map.

Look at the bottom of the map towards left hand side and you will see Blue Bay. You can walk along to the Marina/Bar Street area, its maybe 15-20 mins. Alternatively from the main road you can wave down a dolmus which will take you along in no time at all. In the other direction you can take a dolmus to nearby Icmeler (bus with the orange stripe, fare 2 lira per person each way).

Along at the Marina the bus will probably drop you off at Tansas the large supermarket. You just walk a few minutes passed Ataturk Statue and thats you heading along to the Marina. The huge covered Grand Bazaar is there and Marmaris Castle slightly further along. At the bottom right hand side of the map you will see little blue dots. Thats Bar Street (very expensive!!)

Theres 2 waterparks very nearby - if you like that kinda thing - Atlantis right on the beach or Aqua Dream on the hill. I would suggest that you do one of the all day boat trips which are amazing value. Just go down onto Long Beach and theres any amounts of people selling these trips or read posts on the forum where you will get info on the best deals. Normally you would be picked up at your hotel and dropped off again. Theres lots of info on TA forum about longer trips for instance Pammukale or Ephesus but it depends how far you want to travel as the trips can be quite tiring.

In Turkey if you are buying anything or arranging a trip/s DONT take the first price offered to you. Barter a little. The Turkish people expect this. You will find that the price comes down substantially!

I would recommend a Turkish Bath at the beginning of your holiday. I think your hotel has this facility but heres another link. Again you can get picked up and dropped off.

Hope this info helps a little. Enjoy your hols!

thank you so much for your post, we really appreciate it.

Do you (or anybody else) know which boat is the best one to go on and where to book it?

Also has anyone been to pamukkale, ephesus or dalyan.....which is best/most worth doing?

everyone has been raving about the ephesus trip, they say its the best day out and value for money and as for boats, everyone seems to think that memories or romeo are the best boats, they are down by the marina

Agree that Stella is a fantastic night out however we felt the food was also delicious, if a tad dearer than normal restaurant prices.

Ephesus gets very hot in the afternoon. Probably better to join the throngs in the AM and miss some of the heat.

Getting to Pamukkale is an interesting drive in that you go through small towns, no tourists and it's interesting seeing the local housing, people, markets, etc. Pamukkale itself is truly a natural wonder, comparable to Yellowstone in its geographic uniqueness! There are also other antiquity sites nearby and a great Turkish Towel factory outlet store near.
