As with 90% of our holiday it was overcast & drizzling rain… It was not cold and the rain was not a problem as it was only light (no sunglass salespeople now though – but the raincoat and umbrella salespeople are all out)
CRISIS HITS….. the teens discover no facebook access!!!
After a lovely breakfast we all walked to Tigerlilly café to meet our guide & commence our ‘Courtier Comforts tour’ ( http://www.stylehoian.com/our-tours/ ) . This was a great experience, firstly over a coffee we each discuss what we would like to have made. The boys quickly escape to look around Hoi Ann. We walk to a tailor and discuss our requests then we visit two different warehouses to choose fabrics. Finally we return to the tailor to all be measured up and finalise all the details.
As luck would have it at 2pm when we are concluding stage 1 of our tailor experience the boys walked past the front of the tailor – we could not have planned this!!!.
Introductions all round and ginger tea for all – nice.
With everything finalised we returned to our hotel to freshen up before having lunch at – as always beautiful, I just love Vietnamese food. It is then that our other Mum discovers her hand bag is missing!!! Her husband quickly backtracks to the tailor – to find her bag safe and sound and is also presented with a present for her - a raincoat she had been admiring earlier (at no charge) Such special people!!!
Next it’s the boys turn. Off to another tailor. Firstly we discuss styles and fabrics and while the boys are being measured us mothers are sorting finer details and negotiating the price, the young assistant says she will check with the tailor. She comes back in and we all agree on the price and all final details are settled…... Next thing the tailor bursts into the room and exclaims loudly that he cannot give us the discount as agreed….can give only ½ that amount. He pointed to my husband and stated “tall man – MUCH fabric… and big bum – MUCH fabric”. The other husband immediately burst into laughter but the tailor very quickly turned on him pointing and exclaiming “and you same!” Both mothers burst into laughter and agreed that we could not argue with this. I will say in their defence neither are obese they are just two over 6ft tall Aussie boys.
Before we leave both men are whisked away to another tailor (“Uncs”) across town to be RE measured.
When our tailoring was finalised we all shopped (Hoi Ann has wonderful shopping) our way to dinner at the ‘laugh café’– nice. Although Peter started this café to train street kids he has been so successful that when we visited they had all moved on so he was quite stretched. Yes the food was slow coming but it was fantastic. Great night.
After dinner we went to the Hoi Ann Day Spa (review posted) for pedicures with paraffin wax (for us 5 girls) and the boys both had a massage. Soooo nice! Last but not least we had pancakes and coffee before returning to our Hotel.
We really are in Paradise….. More to come.
