How to split Da Nang / Hoi An for 5 day stay?

Staying in Dan Nang / Hoi an for 5 nights and 3 days (arriving late (9pm) from HCMC and leaving early (1pm) for Hanoi). Having a hard time deciding how I should split the stay between the two places or just stay in one place (less hassle in traveling).

Da Nang is just 15 minutes taxi away from Hoi An. YOu can stay in Hoi An but can visit Da Nang attractions very easily.

That's one hell of a fast taxi. The journey time is more like 30 mins, but it's still pretty close. There's not much to keep you in Danang for more than a day so base yourself in Hoi An & do Danang as a day trip.

Gosh I’d have to agree, I wouldn’t take a ride in that taxi not for all the tea in china!

Anyway I would agree with Timmyruss that with just 3 days you’re best to stay in Hoi An and if you feel so inclined you can make that mad dash to Danang for a day.

Most people love Hoi An and if you’re anything like the majority you probably won’t want to leave. You can always hop on a bicycle or take a taxi and go out to An Bang Beach, about 4 kms, if you want some beach time.

Both DaNang and Hoi An have their attractions...all depends on what you like. 30 minute drive time between respective cities. Check the to do pages for both and decide.

30-45min is more like the taxi ride. 15min - LOL.

I'd spend a day or two in Hoi An and the rest in Da Nang.

While it's true that from the old quarter in Hoi An to the center of Da Nang is more like a 40 plus minute ride, from the northern edge of the town of Hoi An to the southern edge of the city of Da Nang is less than 10km.

The two are separated by the Dien Ban District.

So, technically, a 15km taxi ride is easily achievable along the coastal road. :)

As you'll be arriving late at night, I would suggest a stay along the Han river where you can still take a little stroll before turning in.

It's best to stay to the east of the airport, which is the northern end of Da Nang.

In the morning, you can arrange for a private transfer taking a day tour of the Son Tra peninsula (the northeast end of Da Nang), down the coast line, past the Marble Mountains (they are more like mini mountains), through the resort area around Hoa Hai commune and the eastern end of Dien Ban district, before ending up in Hoi An.

A seven seater is recommended as it's more roomy, with luggage space.
