No you can't. But lots of people do. Just remember that a) the roads in Vietnam (especially Saigon) are completely, utterly insane, and b) driving without a licence invalidates any insurance cover you may have. Read the sticky on top of the Vietnam forum for more info. Oh, and have a look at this video...

The last poster is basically correct. The only exception is that the driver of a scooter/motorbike of less than 50cc does not need a driving licence .I have a 49cc Sym motorbike, and it's perfectly adequate for round town journeys, but I wouldn't care to ride it for long distances or with a heavy load,it doesn't have enough power for that

Yes, you can ride a 50cc bike or even an electric bike but the problem is most for rent are around the 110cc mark. As for electric bike hire, never seen any being hired. Good hunting. Just make sure your insurance is good to fly you home if the worse should happen - not unknown.

Dear jackmoor

Oh, really, i do not read any legal of Vietnam said that "have to be in country for at least 3 months"

Just have international license is enough. Why do you know about this information, please share with me.

Thank you

No AnnaCandy, foreign licenses and international driving permits are NOT accepted in Vietnam.

To learn precisely what the law is, read all that is quoted on the following link very carefully and please do not encourage foreigners to break the law:

It is public knowledge, AnnaCanda. You need a place of residence for a license. You cannot have a place of residence with anything less than a 90 day visa.

Your post #4 is irresponsible at best, and at worst it conveys false information. Like many Vietnamese ride without a license I personally know quite a few foreigners who ride unlicensed or with fake or illegally obtained licenses as well.
