4 day stay in Livingstone - Aug 2006

We have the opportunity to visit the Victoria Falls area in August of this year without our children and would like a special place to stay.

Can anybody recommend somewhere, with a pool, near the falls, has good value for money cuisine and where we won't feel that we have been ripped off.

We want to be able to chill out, see the falls, perhaps do some white water rafting etc.

Any suggestions?

Thank you

The Royal livingstone hotel is sited on the river with a view towards the falls you can walk along a path which will take you around the falls it also has a swimming pool, zebra and monkies roam the grounds(keep the patio doors closed!)

The Royal Livingstone is certainly an extrordinarily special place to stay , we have just returned from 6 nights there and loved it soo much!

You can't miss the falls ( they are at the end of the garden) it's incredibly relaxing and the super-efficient activity centre makes it really easy and quick to book on the many excellent trips in the area.

However , food is a little expensive ...$20 to $25 for a main course. If ( like us ) you don't drink too much, eat a good b'fast , a very light lunch and one or two courses for dinner it should not be too expensive.

The sister hotel next door also looked fine , with large buffets for lunch and dinner . ..you can have lunch or dinner there and transport is provided . However the rooms were not as nice , did not have any private outside space and did not have the fab river views all the rooms in the Royal did.

If you'd like a really cheap but nice place to stay, there is the Fawlty Towers Backpackers. They have doubles rooms, which are set apart from the main backpackers area. They are cheap, clean, peaceful, private, and right next to a nice pool. I haven't tried the food, because I always ate out at other places. The great place about Fawlty Towers is that it's right on the main road of Livingstone, so you can walk to a ton of restaurants and shops. They provide free daily transfer to the falls, and promise to get you the best deals on all sorts of excursions and activities.
