Both "supermarkets" and "shopping arcades" exist in central Niigata. Which do you prefer?

There is an underground shopping arcade with a couple of fruit and vegetable markets across the long bridge near the station. Go down the main drag and turn left. You can't miss it. It's called Honcho Ichiba:

There is a market that sells seafood in there, in fact, my favorite are the large rock oysters endemic to the region. Only a few places in Japan offer these pankyo battered fried oysters which are huge.

There is a famous fishmarket down the coast near Kashiwazaki. Unfortunately I have not been there.
