bus from TSUBAMESANJO station to echigonagano onsen

Dear all,

can anyone help us with the bus service from Tsubamesanjo station to echigo-nagano onsen. We are thinking of spending a night at Rankeiso Inn in Dec and although the ryokan do provide a transport but we need to leave early the next morning to catch an early train. the ryokan only have a transport at 10:00 am so we may need to take a public bus if there is any.

thanks for the help.

The closest bus stop is Yagigahana Onsen (八木ヶ鼻温泉) bus stop (final stop) on Higashisanjo (東三条) - Yagigahana Onsen bus line operated by Echigo Kotsu Co (越後交通). The Rankeiso (嵐渓荘) says that it can have their car to pick up from the Yagigahana bus stop which is 3 min from the hotel.

☆: Not on Sat/Sun/Hol.

*Note that Higashi Sanjo Station is not the Tsubame Sanjo Shinkansen Station.

The area has a hired car system (Demand Taxi <<Himesayuri>>) operated by taxi companies on weekdays (08:00-18:00), to be booked one hour ahead of demand.

From Tsubame-Sanjo Shinkansen Station to Rankeiso, 800 yen (if 2 persons), 2,500 yen if 1 person.

Bookings: Esu Taxi エスタクシー (0256-32-5021); Sanjo Taxi 三条タクシー (0256-33-1661);

Chuetsu Kotsu 中越交通 (0256-38-2021); Hinomaru Taxi 日の丸観光タクシー(0256-35-5555).

As mentioned, the Rankeiso has a free shuttle service from Tsubame-Sanjo station for guests.

Rankeiso is a sort of secretly hidden place and should be enjoyed as such by people with ample flexible time in schedule. You should reconsider your schedule or cancel the stay.

Print this out and consult to Ryokan staff. 1st bus seems to arrive at Higashi-Sanjo station at 0710. TsubameSanjo is 2 stops from Higashi-Sanjo,

Thanks guys for the help. We will be heading to Ikaho onsen next and hope to arrive there for lunch which means taking the 9+ train out of Tsubamesanjo. Will check with the ryokan again, maybe will just have to leave later and take the 11+ train.

Btw is the yagigahana onsen worth visiting or should we just stick to the original plan of visiting rankeiso?

I assume that Rankeiso is a part of Yagigahana onsen area. Look at Google Map.

I would personally rather stay at one nice onsen town like Kinosaki for a couple of days and relax, exploring the area by doing hikes, rather than change ryokans everyday.

It's your call, though.

This (Iiyura-tei) is probably a community run day onsen facility at Yagigahana, Sanjo, Niigata Prefecture. There chould be other onsen ryokans in the area apart from Rankeiso.

Thanks YobeeKool, u do have a point but as foreigners and on JR pass we would like to maximize our time in Japan. Yes Kinosaki is a good recommendation, we have been there and like it very much.
