Hi there

basically you'll be using trains - there are a few local buses connecting station to places - but basically trains. NOt much English info on the net about buses.

There is bus from Memmanbetsu Airport to Utoro, it leaves at:

10.10/12.35/15.30 in the summer.

I think you should get that bus from the airport..

Also, not sure trying to squeeze Abashiri AND Furano/Biei all in this short trip is such a good idea...but that's my personal feeling...

maybe cut Abashiri and just go to Furano and actually relax in the countryside and have a bit more time is better?

Hi there,

Your trip plan seems a bit too tight. You should readjust your trip plan. It is only six days, you should focus on some areas then you would experience the true essence of hokkaido. Try visiting hokkaido again in winter.

Yes...I agree...doing East Hokkaido - Furano - Noboribetsu all on the same trip is a lot because the traveling between these places is basically a whole day too...ok if you have a 10 day trip...but less than that you are really just rushing around and not getting the real feeling of Hokkaido.

Lake Akan has Ainu culture, strange little algae balls and hot springs...you don't need to go to Noboribetsu...or for onsem go to Asahidake, Sounkyou, Tokachidake onsen or Kawayu...

Dear funster026 and Amanda

I know is a little too tight. My ideal of travel to Hokkadio is for Shiretoko.

well! I had no choice, the other wish to visit some of those place, so just had to put that into consideration.

Anyway thank very much.

By the way do you know of any service provider, provide transport and driver to move around Utoro.

And how much do you think it will cost.

God bless

Dear Amanda and funster026

I will not be moving around Abashiri, I just use it as a stop over for Hotel one night on 18/07/2008, to cut short for travelling time the next day. So we can have more time to move around Biei/Lavandar farm the next day.

Thank

Hi Casey

In Utoro use the shuttle bus from the village to the Nature center - 5 Lakes - Kamuiwakka falls. It's a little like being in a Jurassic Park theme park.

There are also local buses ( not so many) and village taxies. And of course all the boat companies in the harbor which go out around the pensinsular.

Utoro is a REALLY small place and everyone who is there goes to see the same places...so once you get there you'll see how it all works!

(also I expect your hotel will have some kind of tour locally)
