sapporo + where else for snow holiday?

Hi everyone,

we are looking for a snow (without skiing) holiday this Xmas so are considering Sapporo. We have a 3-yr old who will LOVE to play with snow. we are considering 8 nights but really cant decide where to go other than Sapporo.. or shall we just stay in Sapporo?

niseko seems like a natural option but it seems to be really for those who ski/snowboard. Can anyone recommend one other destination that has nice accommodation for families and great for snow playt? (willing to pay up for relaxing stay!)

I'm not sure onsen will be good with our toddler....

Thanks so much in advance!

One option is to relax in a winter resort like Tomamu Alpha Resort. You can click on “ACTIVITIES” to see things that are offered during winter months.

For seasonal highlights, Sapporo has an annual winter lit-up event.

Otaru which is an easy side trip from Sapporo also has an annual winter lighting event.

Many people enjoy going to the famous zoo at Asahikawa during winter....Asahiyama Zoo!

If you are NOT into ski or snowboard I think more than 3 days at a Winter Resort would be boring, so I'd recommend a city stay - Sapporo/Otaru/Hakodate or the onsen villages Noboribetsu/Toya/Sounkyou/Akan.....
