Snow festival Hokkaido 2014

Hi can anyone advise me on the dates for the snow festivals in Hokkaido? I am planning to go in late March and hoping to catch a snow festival. I know i’m too late for Sapporo’s but have heard that there are others that end later?

Thanks in advance.

I highly doubt you will find snow festivals in late March. Spring starts on March 20, 2014. Although Hokkaido is cold, enough places will be hovering above freezing regularly then.

Lake Akan in east Hokkaido - their winter festival continues ON the lake until the end of March! Very good festival.

Sounkyou Ice Festival too - end of March

Abashiri Drift Ice Tours - until the end of March

Kushiro Red Crested Cranes on the world heritage marshes - Akan International Crane Center - feeding of the wild birds stops end of Feb, but there are still birds to be seen in March.

East Hokkaido! Lots of do and see!

Have fun - while south Hokkaido is full of dirty snow and dreaming of spring...east Hokkaido is still winter in March.

Thank you so much Amanda! I wish this reply had come earlier : )

I thought I had missed all the snow festivals and so will be travelling 2 April : ( What a waste...but I guess I'll still be able to enjoy the beautiful snow on Furano.
