awa kamogawa, japan

planning to go to Japan next summer. one point of extreme interest is Awa Kamogawa. I was station near there in 1956. I want to see it again and relive some of those wonderful moments. I know that it has grown, but I just have to go. Any ideas on places to stay and see? We'll be going in June or July. We'll visit my wife's sister in Tokyo, then run down to Kamogawa for two or three days. Having access to a Kamogawa phone book by web search would be awesome if anybody knows how to do that. Ray Hall

Ray Hall,

Kamogawa is now known for Kamogawa Sea World and there're several resort hotels, ryokans and pensions(family-run lodges). What type of accomodation do you look for and what is your budget?

Only "Town Page (directory for business entities)" is available on the net and it is in Japanese.

Thanks for rapid responce. Accomomodations don't need to be extravagant, but my wife is a little spoiled. This will be our 52nd anniversary, so I want it kind of nice. Ray Hall

Wow! Then your wife should be spoiled :)

1)Kichimu (meaning "auspicious dream") near JR Awa Kominato station

Japanese-style ryokan hotel facing the sea. Its webpage (in English) does not have much info but most of the rooms face the sea and there's a big open-air bath on the top. Also you can use open-air "kashikiri (reserved bath)" for 45 min (extra charge : 1050 yen)

You can book this hotel via Japanican(

2)Kamogawa Grand Hotel (near JR Awa Kamogawa station)

Western-style resort hotel with open-air bath (there's no "kashikiri"), spa facility and restaurant.

Japanican also deals with this hotel. (japanican.com/hotels/ShisetsuDetail.aspx…)
