Hot springs - LaQua Spa or Oedo Onsen Monogatari

Hi fellow TAs,

We would like to fit in an Onsen experience during our 7 day Tokyo trip and would prefer for the location to be within Tokyo or not more than 30 - 40mins away by public transport.

So far, I've found the LaQua Spa at the Tokyo Dome City and Oedo Onsen Monogatari. Would either of these places be a good onsen experience? Which is better? Finally, would you have other recommendations that fit the bill?

We are 2 girls and would ideally like a true-blue onsen experience within Tokyo. Thanks! :)

Both are very much man-made. Oedo Onsen Monogatari is the better choice.

Thanks Sammyfloyd!

Route246, Toshimaen Niwa no Yu looks awesome. I vaguely understand from Google Translate that the Onsen is "20 minutes from Shinjuku direct"... at least, I hope that's correct!

Would you happen to know how to get there and the approximate commute time? Also, would we have problems communicating with the staff at the Onsen with almost zero knowledge of Japanese? We can say 'Please and Thank you' and not much else!

About 15 minutes from Seibu Ikebukuro Station. Check Hyperdia for the schedule.
