Day trip to Kamakura (and Yokohama)

I'd like to visit Kamakura as a day trip from Tokyo. As the City of Yokohama actually is located between Kamakura and Tokyo, a stop would make sense in my opinion. Do you agree?

Well, kind of. You don't go through Yokohama to get to Kamakura so you would have to get off (probably at Shin-Yokohama; I don't have the schedule here) and get from there into Yokohama. Most of Yokohama's attractions are near the harbour or further south (eg. Sankien Gardens).

Depending on how much time you have you could easily spend a day in Kamakura and at least a half day in Yokohama.

The JR Yokosuka Line trains bound for Zushi go directly from Tokyo to Kamakura and stop at Yokohama before reaching Kamakura. So if you want to stop at Yokohama, there is no problem. However, I think it's best to spend a whole day in Kamakura unless you have something specific you want to see in Yokohama.

Visiting Enoshima is probably a better alternative to Yokohama.

It depends on people's preferences. Yokohama has a Chinatown, old port area now turned into a leisurely shopping zone, a ferris wheel, a ramen-themed park, and the view from the Landmark Tower is good ... but it's just about it. I don't dislike it, but there are lots of places which are much more interesting and deserves visits by foreign visitors. I agree that Enoshima area could be more fun to visit. Kamakura alone deserve a full day's visit, in my opinion. Perhaps its relatively shallow history and proximity to the capital made it a city without strong originality and just like another suburban city of Tokyo.

I would make this itinerary.

1. Take Odakyu Line from Shinjuku for Katase-Enoshima.

2. Walk to Enoshima Island and walk back to Enoden Enoshima Station.

3. Ride on Enoden tram-like train.

4. Get off at Hase. walk to Daibutsu (great buddha statue). Walk back to Hase station.

5. Get on Enoden again and get off at Kamakura.

6. Walk to Tsurugaoka-Hachimangu Temple. Walk back to Kamakura station.

7. Get on JR Yokosuka Line. Transfer to JR Negishi Line at Ofuna.

8. Get off at Kan'nai. Walk to Yamashita Park and Yokohama Port area.

9. Walk to Sakuragi-Cho station. Get on Toyoko Line for Shibuya, if your hotel is Shibuya-Shinjuku area. Or get on JR Negishi Line and transfer at Yokohama station to JR Tokaido Line if your hotel is Shinagawa/Shimbashi/Ueno area.

A. Enoden train is really enjoyable.

B. Kamakura Daibutsu Buddha site is here.

C. Tsurugaoka Hachiman Temple is

It would be a nice daytrip.
