yes, if you have a Japanese credit card and understands Japanese
For some routes (where you can buy the ticket from a different JR company) Japanese issued credit card may not be required.
There is absolutely no need to pre-book the Shinkansen ticket from Tokyo to Kyoto unless you're traveling in a peak season. Trains depart every 8-15 minutes.
When is your friend coming?
They will be travelling ther in August and wanna me to help buy. But I have only Chinese credit card and visa. And I donnot understand Japanese.
Maybe tthe hotel front dest there can help?
