Imperial Palace and Gardens - Golden Week

Hi all

I'm struggling to find any information about whether the Imperial Palace and/or the Gardens are open during Golden Week, particularly the 4th/5th May.

Does anyone have any information?

Thanks :)

Imperial Palace (the one in Tokyo) itself is usually not open to public, but it's just a post-war modern concrete construction with nothing much interesting to tourists (un-palace like). The East Garden is the location of the central compounds of the Edo Castle of the Tokugawa Shogunate, and some parts of it can be seen restored or in the form of ruins. If you are not a history/archaeology enthusiast though, the ruins won't be much interesting. The garden is not the best one in Tokyo but still nice to see if you have free time.

The whole part of Tokyo Imperial Palace belonged to the Shogun, the supreme military governor, who had the actual ruling powers for many years of Japanese history at least from around 12th century to 1867-68 when the Emperor in the capital (Kyoto) was mostly left in the oblivion was handed back authority from the defunct Shongun government in Edo (now Tokyo, the Eastern Capital).
