Suica Cards

Can the Suica cards be used on both the JR Yamanote Line as well as the subway lines in Tokyo?

If we have credit left on our card after we leave Tokyo for Kyoto, can we use the Suica card for bus, train and subway in the Kyoto and Hiroshima areas? (not the trip to Kyoto, but travel within Kyoto and Hiroshima).

Lastly, for a couple traveling together, and seldom separated, would we be able to share one Suica card (swipe it twice at the subway gate), or is this not allowed? Does it make more sense to each have our own Suica card?

Thanks, and sorry if these are dumb questions!!

Yes. It can be used at convenience stores as well.

You can use SUICA for Kyoto City Subway and JR Lines as well as so-called private railway lines such as Keihan, Hankyu, and Kintetsu. But you cannot use it for Kyoto City Bus or Hiroden Tram in Hiroshima.

Swiping the card twice at the turnstiles is not possible. If you swipe once at entrance, you would need to swipe it at the exit next.

Hello - As you can see you can spend any remaining balance on the card at a number of stores or get a refund at the station and as a tourist you will I think be given a special card with great graphics on it BUT:-

What they hope is that you will want to take the card home with you (as a memento of your holiday) and you cannot get a refund and keep the card!!! So you might say the deal is you keep the card if you want to but if you do we keep any balance you have left on it!!

Very clever..
