Ginza or Shinjuku or Minato

We are planning a 4 day visit to Tokyo from 19th October 2014. While looking at various hotel locations, seems that Ginza or Shinjuku or Minato locations appear the best. Ginza seems closest to Hamamatsucho Bus Terminal from where most of the tourist buses leave for the daily tours, while Shinjuku seems convenient to take the Shinkansen to Mt.Fuji and Kyoto. Can anybody suggest the best location for a first time tourist to stay in Tokyo - convenience of sight-seeing around Tokyo being the priority. Thanks

All are fine as there isn't one central area of Tokyo per se.

You can read more about the different areas/districts here - http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2164.html

Keep in mind that it's very easy to access most of Tokyo in a fair amount of time by using the extensive subway network.

Tokyo is very spread out and there's not really one "best " area in which to stay. Every area has its own sights to see and the whole city is so well connected. Out of the areas that you have written about I'd probably stay in Shinjuku, but that's personal preference more than anything else.

They're all great areas.

Shinjuku: has a lot of nightlife, a very large train station. Here's more about Shinjuku: http://www.blaineanderin.com/shinjuku/

Minato: If you choose to stay in Minato, i recommend being near Roppongi. More on Roppongi: http://www.blaineanderin.com/roppongi/

Ginza: Ginza is Tokyo's luxury shopping district. More on Ginza: http://www.blaineanderin.com/ginza/

Enjoy your stay!
