Travel from Singapore to Langkawi

My husband and I are flying into KL, spending a few days there and then travelling to Singapore. We'll travel from KL to Singapore by bus (based on the advice on this forum). My question is what is the cheapest and quickest way of travelling back from Singapore to Langkawi for our last few days. There are no flights on Silkair on 15 Jan (probably as its a Sunday) and we have had no luck on Airasia. Can anyone suggest an alternative?

There are a few different ways to go.

1. Fly Singapore airlines (via silkair) directly to Langkawi. As you seem to have already checked the only thing they have available on their web site is on the 13th and 17th. Price on the 13th was SGD 266 just for reference.

2. Fly Malaysia airlines to Langkawi from Singapore. Just checked price and it was SGD 275 and they have flights on the 15th

3. Take taxi or bus to Johor Baru and fly air asia from JB to KL then KL to Langkawi. Car to JB is about SGD 50 bus is SGD 10, flight from JB to KL is RM 9.99, and flight from KL to Langkawi is RM 79. They also have vacancies on the 15th.

4. Alternatively you can fly into Penang and take the ferry from Penang to Langkawi. Its not very long, under 2 hours and costs RM 40 per person. It can be a fun experience also. Singapore airlines flys to penang directly (Via MAS). Cost is SGD 231 via singapore airlines web site and SGD 240 via MAS web site.

A suggestion from a budget traveller, take a bus across the causeway into Johor Bahru, go to Merlin Tower, get a bus ticket (less than RM100 per person), and spend 13 hours on bus, enjoying the scenery along the way.

I always travel this way, as i got this own theory, 'you pay less and you get more'. HA. Enjoy.

Hi hornydevil,

Where is Merlin Tower in JB? And what is the name of the bus company? Can you book the bus tickets in advance (from Langkawi back to JB via the same operator) ?

I have taken a coach from Larkin Bus Terminal in JB to Kuala Perlis for about RM55 per person. After my visit in Langkawi, I went to Penang before coming back to Singapore. So I do not know if I can easily get tickets from Kuala Perlis directly to Singapore.

Thanks.

pam,

You might also consider the train, night sleepers are very good and comfortable. You can leave the train at Kuala Kedah and take a taxi to the port, catch the boat to Langkawi.

I think SilkAir only fly here twice a week from Sing.

Bus is cheapest but it is a long way to be stuck on the bus, having said that I have just spent 78 hours traveling by train in Thailand, so maybe a bus trip will be reasonably short in comparison.

Ask around in Singapore, some companies are better than others.
