Our 3rd trip to Langkawi, just a short sweet 2 nights, to relax by the pool at Holiday Villa before heading to KL for a few days and then home.
The flight from Penang on Air Asia took 20 mins. As usual the sight of the islands around Langkawi is amazing from the plane.
Hired a car from the airport rm140 for 2 days, as we hired a new Proton from Heaven Holidays. But all the car hire places have very similar deals. Smaller cars where a bit cheaper, but not much room for our luggage, and as we were coming to the end of our 3rd week away, we had 2 large suitcases as well as 2 hand trolleys.
As usual they leave the bare minimum of fuel in the car, and give you instructions to the nearest petrol station. Good place to stock up on water, cool drinks and whatever else you want before heading to your hotel.
We were staying at the Holiday Villa for our 2nd time. We like the location of this hotel in Pantai Tengah. Much quieter on the beach. And the pool is great. A kiddies pool, as well as a large swimming pool, a pool spa and a swim up bar and snacks area. Lots of shade to sit and relax in.
Always ask for a pool view as the garden view is a bit boring.
I wasn’t feeling too well, so we just drove to a restaurant on the beach for a meal. But once I smelt the food, thats when I became much worse. Nothing to do with the restaurant, more to do with the food poisoning from a meal at Penang Airport.
So for the rest of the day and night, the toilet was my best friend.
Next day I was tired but feeling a bit better. Off to Oriental Village to finally go on the Cable Car.
On our 1st trip to Langkawi, it was closed due to bad weather. 2nd trip it was closed due to maintenance. Third time lucky. Hotel staff told us it had been closed for the previous 2 days for maintenance.
Unfortunately the Skywalk was closed due to maintenance.
Cable car costs rm30 each for the round trip. Get there early as the queue can be long. We waited about 20 mins to get on the cable car, which was quite good.
The first section of the cable car ride from the ground station was a steep straight climb over the rain forests. The next station you could get off to admire the view. We didn’t get off here as we decided to keep going to the peak. Then the cable car did a 180 degree turn to head to the peak station. The views from the peak were amazing. Great photo opportunity. It was a clear beautiful day.
Back to the Oriental Village. Pretty with quaint bridges crossing over the lake. Lots of shops selling souvenirs, clothes, shoes, handbags etc. Bought some sarongs & kids clothes for the family.
Had my 1st experience on a segway here. Cost rm17 each for ½ hour. You have a lesson before you head off with a instructor around the outskirts of the village, on the footpaths and over the bridges. I got the hang of it quite quickly, but hubby took a little while to get the hang of it. It was so much fun. I cant wait to do it again.
Drove around the island stopping at a few places along the way, before heading to Kuah. I was going to do a bit of shopping, but we decided that it was time to relax and enjoy the pool at the hotel. The pool at the hotel is lovely. Gorgeous warmish water. The surrounding gardens are lovely.
Hubby went across the road from the hotel to get himself some dinner. I wasnt game enough to eat yet.
We sat by the beach watching the Sunset. The sky went from orange/red sky to a purple/pink sky. Got some amazing photos. They were still parasailing as the sun set.
Next morning time to pack up before flying to KL. We went looking for a massage place, as my back was playing up. Lots of places for massages at Pantai Cenang, but nothing is open till the afternoon, as they stay open so late into the night. Finally found one place open at 10.30am. I struck it lucky with the lady I had. She knew exactly what to do. I walked out of the place after an hour and my back was straight, and the spasms had stopped.
Feeling better, I was hungry after not eating anything other than fruit since we arrived in Langkawi. We went to a place across the road from the hotel. Run by a local lady. Food was cheap and fantastic. Sorry, cant remember the name of the place, but its under a roof with no side walls.
Dropped the car off at the airport.
