Duty Free - What else is cheap besides liquor?

Hi,

Just wondering besides liquor what else is worth buying in langkawi's duty free shops when we come for our visit next month? Is laptops a good purchase here?

I am a US expat living in China right now where most items of higher quality seems to be more expensive (because of import tarriffs & taxes) then in the US where I am from.

thanks.

Hi

Do a little research before you come because although Langkawi is duty free it only seems to apply to certain goods.

Liquor & tobacco are the obvious, but also chocolate & luggage (I guess you need the luggage for the chocolate).

Electrical goods are certainy no cheaper there than in the UK for instance, & you will probably get better prices in KL than Langkawi.

Have fun

also - items may not carry a guarantee which is valid in china, if this is an issue.

perfumes and cosmetics are tax-free throughout malaysia, if that is of interest. there really aren't any outlets selling the luxury goods [designer clothing, for instance] which command a high price in china. k.l. is better for that.

if you are travelling via k.l. - check out whether you can re-claim any tax paid on goods for export.
