light hiking and leeches

Hi all,

I'm traveling to Malaysia this June. I'm NOT going to the jungle, but I will do some Camerone Highlands hiking. The rest are islands, beaches and cities.

The question is:

should I be afraid of leeches, and should I buy leech socks (…staticflickr.com/4058/…)?

Thanks in advance for the answers.

If you are only going to do light hiking in the Cameron's probably not necessary - but ultimately its up to you.
