Island visits and Elephant rides

We will be visiting KK on 26th Dec for 5 days and are looking to visit Sapi, Mamutik and Manukan Island. We were hoping to just be able to turn up at the pier and book these. Is this possible? Also is food readily available on the Islands or do we need to take our own? Also what sort of price are we looking at to get across to the Islands?

With regards to the Elephants is anyone aware of anywhere we can go to see these and perhaps ride them?

Thanks in advance for any responses.

You can not and should not ride elephants.

Ok thanks for that. I did read somewhere that they do this at one of the wildlife parks which is why I originally asked about this.

Hi hazel B,

you could buy food at the stalls on the island, but the price isn't cheap.

I have just went to Manukan Island last weekend, paid RM15 for fried noodle + chicken wing at a stall. Drinks not included, paid another RM3 for a small bottle of mineral water.

If you are planning to have lunch & spend the whole day on the island, consider booking a package that includes return boat ride, lunch & snorkeling gear? It will safe you quite a lot of hassle.

Yup, to see elephants, you could visit the Lokawi Zoo.

Hi there

There are wild pygmy elephant populations in Sabah. They are most frequently seen by visitors in the Kinabatangan River area or the Danum Valley , where there are some very nice lodges you can stay in. However to see them you need to stay at least one night (as they are wild after all) and to be lucky ! They cannot be riden by the way .

Happy travels
