The Best Place To Exchange Currency

Arriving Sept 14 for 3 days.

I need to exchange in the airport so I can pay for our hotel when we arrive there.

After that I would like to know the very best place to exchange additional currency.

Kind regards,

There are some money exchange shops in the few shopping malls within the city. Wisma Merdeka, Suria Sabah and Center Point. You should be able to get better rates than if you exchange in the airport.

You will certainly get the best rate at the place mentioned above. Make sure you use a licenced money changer.

And how will I know if the Money Changer is licensed?

Hello Pardeco

You can also consider going to a money exchanger before you arrive at the hotel, e.g. ask the taxi driver to take you to a money exchanger on the way to your hotel

Cheers

Licenced money changers will be in a booth will display major currency exchange rates and will have their licence on display.

Victor that is a good idea but we are being picked up at the airport by the hotel van.

Hi Pardeco,

We travel to KK a lot and unfortunately other than the Airport the best currency exchangers are all in the CBD.

The best value for money exchangers are in the old part of Centrepoint Shopping mall and there are 3 all close by to were all the hairdressers are and just shop around for the best rate. The only other good one is at the entrance to BB Rainforest Cafe and Sugar Bun cafe, most times the Airport exchange is approximately 20-30 sen less than in town. So just change enough to get your accommodation paid or tell the hotel to hold your passport and credit card details when you get there and then go to an exchanger then pay the hotel to save a bit.

Good luck we love KK, Neil and Suzie From Melbourne Australia.

Thanks Neil and Suzie for the info.

Victoria and I are looking for short day trips as we only have Sun, Mon and Tue in KK.

We are not interested in the island trips as we live on Palawan in the Philippines and our islands in El Nido and Coron are world class.

I like trains but the North Borneo will not work with our schedule. We thought about the train going to Beaufort, but we are having difficulty in finding out if we can leave KK going to Beaufort and return the same day.

If you have other suggestions or info we certainly would appreciate your advice.

Hi Pardeco, the trip to Beaufort isn't really that fantastic. Depending on what you like the three things that are worth doing are 1/ Mt Kinabalu Day Trip with a visit to sabahtourism.com/destination/poring-hot-spri…

2/ Bunga Raya Island Resort (Day trip only as very expensive resort)http://www.sabahtourism.com/destination/bunga-raya-island-resort-spa

3/ Lok Kawi Wild life park about 16km from KK sabahtourism.com/destination/lok-kawi-wildli…

or have a look at this web address and try to pick what you like,

Good Luck
