Food - look at the top right of this page 'Top questions about Kuching'

Caves - there may be water dripping in the caves - depends on how much rain has fallen.

There are a number of steps up to Fairy cave - slow and steady is the answer. Suggest you don't go all the way thru the cave unless you are with other people as the footing in places is treacherous. Apart from that you don't need to get super fit.

Make sure you have a good torch & water to drink.

Wind cave is easy.

The main shopping malls are out of town - Spring is the closest and would take about 30 minutes walk (one way).

Have a look at Google Earth to get familiar with the city and area.

Whoops - Kuching is safe - but you still need to use common sense and keep your valubles secure. Taxies are the biggest threat as some will rip of tourists.

Only hike santubong if fit. It's not an easy climb. Very steep in places.

Plaza merdeka is latest big mall in centre of town and much closer to you than the spring (about 15 mins from Jalan Abel) I prefer it to the spring, less 'airport terminal' style more intimate with little boutiques as well as a far superior parkson to the spring. But u really wanna mall shop with just 3 days?!!

You also have tun Jugah and Sarawak plaza malls within minutes of Jalan Abel but older and not so great these days. Spring likely take closer to 45 mins on foot.

Plenty food options on Jalan padungan close to Abel.

KR's correct - I forgot about Merdaka (took me 10 minutes to walk around it - not into shopping malls).
