trip review for kuchin

We had an awesome time in Kuching. You can see our trip report on our blog: www.thextrasuitcase.com. We wanted to give a review for Ooo Haa Tour and Travels as TA declined my request to put them in the listings.

Ooo Haa MADE our vacation in Kuching!! We used them for three tours, 1) to see the Orangutans 2) to see the Rafflesia flower, the Wind Cave and the Fairy Cave 3) a hike at Baku National Park.

Do you need a guide to see the orangutans – no not really, but for approximately $ 22 per person you have a no-hassle trip to see them. And you can learn a lot about the local life during your ride there. Mel took us on this tour and he got us in just before the crowds so we had the opportunity to see Ritchie – the big alpha male. Had we done the tour on our own, we would have been shuttled with the large group and would not have seen nearly us much.

Joe took us to see the Rafflesia flower and visit the caves. The rafflesia is very rare and only blooms during certain times. It is an hour-and-a-half ride, so make sure the flower is in bloom before you go. Ooo Haa will let you know – they would not take you if the flower is not in bloom. My husband loved the Wind Cave – full of bats. I was a bit iffy – too scary : ) I think it was more of a boy thing! But I loved the fairy cave. It was magical.

Maui took was our guide to Baku and he structured the tour exactly as we asked. We got to see several Proboscis monkeys, which was why we wanted to go. Maui is very good at locating them. He even carried a cake to the park (hidden in a brown box) and surprised me with a beautiful birthday cake along with a song by the park rangers and the staff in Bako, because the day we visited was my birthday! Now that is special customer service. Ooo Haa thinks of everything.

All of our guides spoke English very well, were fun, and gave us a lot of information about the local area, culture, and the sites we were visiting.

All of our communication leading up to our trip was quick and thorough. Ooo Haa picked us up on time for every tour. They also pay very good attention to your needs.

They also picked us up and dropped up off at the airport for free.

This is fairly young company, but if they give everyone the service and treatment they gave us – they will be number one on TA very soon!

Oh my goodness, what a fabulous blog! You must have a great camera as your photos are very impressive. I'm heading back to Kuching in a couple of weeks and you have inspired me now to visit Fairy Cave - it does look magical, and very different to other caves I have seen before. Thanks for sharing.

KR, I have been to Kuching and know of Ooo Haa tours, so when I saw David join TA, I sent him a private message to try and guide him about the forum ettiquete. I searched TA considerably, but couldn't find a link to definate do's and don'ts, so I tried my best to outline my understanding.

I don't know if there are regulations about his logo in his profile, but how is one to know? It is difficult to find clear guidelines for this on the forum - unless I have not looked in the right places.

Also, how are his posts any different to Francois of Park Royal in Batu Feringi (sp?) forum. At least David is clear in his association, and I have not yet seen him blatently self promote his business.... And when I holiday..... I like to Oooohaaaa at the sights and experiences :)

Lets all play nicely and don't forget to say please and thank-you ;)

Calm down. I am just trying to point out these things and ask you to be wary in the future. You did have posts removed last year for self promo as I recall under a different profile, so there is some 'previous' as we say. Really don't get your jealousy comment. Take it easy.

Just a second review to reiterate how great Ooo Haa tours are - we did Bako NP and Gunung Gading for the Rafflesia flower - fantastic drivers/park guides both times and great value compared to the companies that do seem to have trip advisor entries. Would definitely recommend having guides for both of these National Parks if doing day trips, to make sure you get the most out of your time.

Thanks also for the coffee :)
