KLIA Subang - Budget airline terminal

Expect chaos until a new extension to the main terminal is completed (in 2014?) to replace the budget airline terminal. The queue to check baggage through security is long, and no one tells you that you may walk through if you have only hand baggage. Announcements are inaudible. 45 minute check-in deadline is strictly enforced, because it takes so long to get through immigration, etc.

KLIA and Subang are two totally different airports. KLIA is in Sepang, and Subang, is well, in Subang.

Neither is located in Subang Jaya, a residential suburb, which is the forum you have posted in.

Neither of the above are budget terminals. The budget terminal is the LCCT which has been around since 2006. Most people know what to expect of it - its been around nearly 8 years.

There is no new extension to the Main Terminal of KLIA. A totally new and separate terminal called KLIA2 is being built to replace the LCCT, supposedly completing in 2014.

Sorry OP it is rather like comparing an issue at Heathrow with Gatwick!

KUL which consists of KLIA and LCCT (or KLIA2 when it opens) is at Sepang. It is 55km south of the city. The chaos you talk about is not that bad. LCCT is just small and busy. All the paperwork from Air Asia clearly tell you that you are only allowed one piece of hand luggage. The check in for 1 hour is always talked about on this forum, and this forum always tell folks they need to be checked in well before 1 hour. KLIA2 was going to open in June 2013 but until they sort out the bureaucratic mess it is unlikely to open until 2014 earliest. All these issues, including the long delays in immigration, are well documented and discuss in the FAQs on the Kuala Lumpur forum.

Subang Airport is 25km west of the city. It was once the international airport, but is not just a small regional airport with just one terminal used by the smaller airlines like FireFlyz or Berjaya.

Did you miss your flight?
