First Maldives Trip!!!

Hi Everyone,

This is my first post on trip advisor, so forgive me if I'm not doing this correctly.

My husband and I are looking for some advice on our first trip to the Maldives. He and I are looking to go for 14 nights, including travel days. Ideally we would love an over the water bungalow, beautiful beaches, great diving/snorkeling, decent size island(not too big, not too small). It's a vacation aimed at romance, relaxation, and and amazing sea life. We would like an all inclusive or full board option.

We're willing to spend up to $18k USD including all flights. We have been looking on Expedia for their flight/hotel deals and are overwhelmed by the options. So far the two all inclusive at the top of our list are adarran prestige vadoo and kuramathi. We are looking for information on better ones for our list of criteria and information on why we should or shouldn't book one of those two.

Also, we are looking for recommendations on websites that will provide us with the best deals for booking our trip. We've checked out a few, arent sure which is best. Thanks so much for taking your time and offering any adice.

I've been to the Maldives 3 times and have learnt that the first island, which was the cheapest trip has been the nicest, we travelled to mayaafushi.

I'm travelling to centara grand next month and have booked with kenwood travel. I had never heard of them but they are abta bonded and have been around for years. Hayes and Jarvis are also competitive. We have saved 1k off our trip using kenwood. This time. Don't go to a big island and ensure the reef is close to the island. Kuredu was a butlins type experience for us and I'd always stay at a smaller island. Travelling all inclusive is a good idea as food and drink are in usd and pricey, we spent £1000 on food and drink for 2 in 5 days at the holiday inn island( booked using points)

first of all , we need a budget to EXCLUDE your international flights . also deduct about a round 1 k for 2 people return for seaplane trips . once we arrive at a budget for your resort stay , things will get a lot easier. we also have no way of telling how long your travel is , so please give us the actual number of nights spent on loacation.. I generally take an overnight flight from Denver to somewhere in Europe (preferably Germany) , then continue on with a second overnight flight (Frankfurt to male on LTU is my preference for price and convenience) . I go hang out in Frankfurt or have friends come see me at the airport while I wait and do not book a dayroom . on the way home , you pretty much get stranded in Europe for a night however.

your favorites ...

vadoo is a concrete nightmare and one of the very few islands I regret visiting . there is a small strip of beach with view to the capital city (highrises.. lots of them) and the jetty has a good view of the garbage burning plant on the industrial island thilafushi (google it) there is no accessible house reef for snorkeling. the rooms are nice though.

kuramathi is a good all rounder - very large island .

once we have a definite budget , we will be able to suggest others.

as for booking ... purely Maldives has a good reputation . I personally have used e-two reisen and Maldivian.com .. both located in Germany but fluent in English . I have long since stopped dealing with tour operators however and always book direct nowadays

It's also important that you say when you're planning to travel as prices changes a lot...

I have also travelled with Original Diving (English travel agent), which are also specialist in Maldives and other diving destinations...

kuramathi is a massive island, keep it small in the Maldvies is my personnel opinion, we always go to island with less than 100 rooms on it. Preferably less than 50 but these are becoming fewer now. Veligandu is a lovely island as is Athuruga, lobely rooms, good food and good reef. There are so may beautiful islands its hard to choose, we skip between cheaper & more expensive but at the end of the day what's under the water is beautiful whatever island you are on, enjoy

Veligandu is not an island with great snorkelling though.
