Hi there

can anyone tell me whether there's any sharp coral etc in the lagoon that you need to watch out for? is it safe to walk bare foot in the sea?

Many people do go bare foot but the safest option is to wear neoprene shoes, that way if there is any bits of coral which there surely will be or aquatic life lying on the bottom you dont get hurt

I wear the above mentioned shoes when walking in the sea, i would rather be safe than sorry and would hate to spoil the holiday by cutting my foot.

Always be aware of the Brown Trout in the Maldives.

It can sometimes can be found lurking around a Water Villa if the Sewage backs up !!

A more nasty specimen than you could ever imagine ;-0

I think I'm in the minority here in advising people not to wear rubber shoes in the sea. The reason is, you see a lot of people standing on the coral reef and breaking chunks off (they think it's dead, like stone).

If you're barefoot and worried about cutting your feet, you tend to be more careful about where you put your feet.

Yes there are sharp stones in the lagoon, but they're usually avoidable if you pay attention.

I agree with K. I had no problems at all and didnt think there was too much sharp coral to be worried about anyway.Plus dont forget, you may look like a bit of an idiot among all the Prada/Gucci gang parading there wares on the beach.

Bare feet for me too, there's nothing worse than seeing people in shoes standing on coral....

The coral reef is there for you to admire, even small broken off pieces may house a poor creature. In fact small pieces are used as a defence by small fish to hide under/behind.

It doesn't take much to watch your step, the water is clear enough.

So please think before treading anywhere you like just because you're wearing shoes.....
