Diving gear: what to take

Hi can anyone tell me if I should take a 3mm shortie or my 5mm full suit. My wife will kill me if I take both! We are going to Dhonveli on 26th

I use a 3mm long in June,July but others use shorties at that time. When you go the water will be about mid to late 20's so you could get away with a shortie or if you are going to be doing a lot of diving then maybe the 5mm will keep you warmer but you dont need both. I think it is down to personal preference.

Hi

Agree with above post but can i add that while diving last june/july in maldives a young girl did giant stride in off boat and a surgeon fish sliced her leg open, it was a nasty cut which required stitching so i would always reccommend a full wet suit, my husband always wears a 5mm i always wear a 3mm depends if you feel the cold

2.5mm shortie for me.

Would agree that full length is technically a better choice as it gives you protection - but in the maldives I've also seen plenty of divers without wetsuits as the water is plenty warm enough.

I wore Fourth Element thermocline long sleeve top and shorts which is equivalent to 2.5mm. Fantastic as it is neutrally bouyant and weighs alot less than a standard wetsuit and is really comfy
