Do Sri Lanka first
We are doing this in April.
We are going to Sri Lanka first. We're going to Kandy, see temples, visit turtle sanctuary, tsunami museum, villages etc. Then Maldives for beach and diving.
I'd try to go to Sri Lanka for the culture and not the beaches.
If you want help on the Maldives part then have a read through the FAQ "which island..." And then come back with your criteria, budget, dates etc.
Where in Sri Lanka is the Tsunami museum please?
There have been a lot of posts on this twin centre kind of trip, Have done it twice myself, absolutley loved it, a great mix of stuff, must do sri Lanka first, would recommned a tour , though the infrastructure is a bit creaky, roads are slow, lots to see
try and include elephant orphanage, the superb botanic gardens , and somewhere like Habarana or sigirya for a couple of days. Avoid like the plague /decline, the "jewellery" makers/local artifact shops. always a friend of your driver and over priced tut' and it wastes precious time,
We did this first time to the Maldives as we thought we'd be bored on a desert island for 2 weeks - how wrong we were!
We did a Kuoni tour with was fab for 5 days but the last 2 days on the Sri Lankan beach resort side were poor so I don't recommend doing this - do a tour, straight to the airport & fly to the Maldives!
If you want more detailed Sri Lankan info I'd post on the specific forum.
would agree with that, first beach hotel for 4 days was waste of time, second Bentota was awesome , amazing food , resident Elephant floating around the gardens looking for snacks. great bird watching on a local river, just do your research well first
