Our family is looking forward to our first trip to Panama later this month. We have booked accommodations at two lodges, in Caldera and Boquete. Our question regards transportation. Several people have told us we MUST rent a car once we arrive in David, but we are wondering if it would be possible to avoid renting a car and rely instead on local drivers for hire to visit the major attractions? We have limited Spanish language skills. Our experience in other Central American countries is that our accommodation hosts could generally arrange excursions, tours, etc. Anyway, thanks in advance for any advice you could share. We really appreciate the chance to meet and learn from other travelers through this Forum.
