Travel from Bocas to David

Is there any flights from Bocas to David on January 10?

We are renting a car in David and need to travel from Bocas.

If not, what is the best way to get there?

Any help would be great.

Google AEROPERLAS and check their schedule. Normally they only fly Mon-Wed and Fri, but change their schedule during the busy season. Otherwise it is a $100 taxi ride (3 hours) or a $15/person bus ride (4 hours) from Almirante to David. Water taxi from Bocas to Almirante is 30 minute and $4/person.

Thanx for the info. I checked for a monday flight, but it wouldn't allow me to continue, I assume there is no flight available. How do I find out the bus schedule?

This site seems fairly accurate...

Don't be afraid of the buses! It will be just dollars compared to so much more for the car.

My husband and I took buses all over Panama.

Just go from taxi to Allbrook Bus Station and it is quite easy to determine where you want to travel.. You get to enjoy the countryside riding with Panamanians. They were quite comfortable, and air conditioned. It is NOT a hastle getting your luggage through the bus station if you have rolling luggage and do not weigh yourself down with so many bags. We travel light when we go (each of us have a rolling duffle bag and a backpack-that's it). If you carry huge heavy luggage, it could be hard getting it on and off the bus.

The bus drivers were very friendly and even took us out of their way to drop us at our destination instead of the nearest bus stop. For instance, the bus driver took us directly to the Allbrook private Airport instead of just dropping us at the bus station to get a cab. Very nice and helpful. Do not be afraid to take the buses. Everyone was very helpful to us. It did help to know a little Spanish, however, as not many bus drivers spoke English.

Now the city buses are another story; we had been warned not to travel the city this way. And from what we saw, these municipal buses are very crowded (many people standing up) and you wouldn't want to hastle with luggage on these, for sure. Especially because in the city a cab costs only a couple of dollars to go a long way. Ask prior to getting into the cab how much it will cost. For instance coming out of the Milaflores Locks we were approached by many cab drivers and asked each what it would cost to get us back into Panama City (which is at least 1/2 hour drive) and the fares were from $7.00 up to $15.00!!! So always ask, and walk away if it is too much. Cabs are abundant.

You cannot book the ticket in advance of your arrival, I don't believe. There are two express buses each day. One in the morning and one at night. You definitely want to get on the express bus. The regular buses leave all the time, but they are hit or miss. . You need to allocate at least twelve hours for your bus trip from Panama to Almirante. If there is traffic or an accident the ten hour trip can increase to twelve before you know it. Good luck!

Thank you very much. You have a been a huge help. We will take your advice on the bus and luggage issues. We hadn't heard about the buses in the big city. Good advice. We have driven Costa Rica many times, this is our first trip to Panama. We have already rented a car in David for our trip back to Panama city. We like to experience the country by driving. We will be heading to Bouquette, Bocas Chica before heading back to the city. Do you live in Panama? Thank you again for your help....

We too have driven all over CR and a fair amount of Panama. Panama is ten-fold better driving simply because infrastructure is so superior. David to Boquete is a nice drive but beware the significant road construction between the 2 now. Take your time and enjoy the driven "up the hill". Figure on return to PC a solid 6 hours with maybe a pit stop. Not a bad drive but those that tell you 3-4 hours between David and PC must be NASCAR drivers! You will enjoy the Panama trip very much. Wonderful folks beautiful (as is CR) geographically. We found the bus between PC and David a bit white knuckle and needed a coat! After a number of driving trips we now fly into David when Boquete is the destination.

We were thinking of spending part of our time in Boquete and part in Bocas, but we really dont like to move around so much. Can we rent a car and drive to Boquete for the day and maybe go to the Volcano or something? We are farily active and will have a 17 year old with us, so we like to keep busy.

thank you for your help!!

It would be the same as if I were coming to KC and wanted to make a "day trip" to Fayetteville, AR and a run on to Ft Smith (or further). About the only time Boquete is not a "destination" is if one is staying in David as a base. In other words, not practical for a day trip.

Air Panama does not fly from David-Bocas-David. Aeroperlas was flying but was grounded due to mechanical problems on some of their planes. the Bocas David flights have not started back yet. People who book hotels in David realize that all the activities are in Boquete and end up driving back and forth, which is a waste of time on vacation.

Aside from the buses there are also private cabs and private vans. For more information on the cabs and vans you can check out this blog: …typepad.com/boquete_mountain_safari_t/2010/…
