Melia Hotel question

We will be staying at Melia for Three nights in February. I understand it recently underwent some much needed renovations. Does anyone know if the previous problems reported on trip advisor have been corrected. We chose this hotel mostly for its pool. Also does anyone know were the closest safe casino is from the Melia? We will have a car but may want to take a taxi incase we enjoy a few cocktails while gambling.

I have yet to read a decent review on the Melia. All that i have heard are horror stories ranging from the pervasive smell of milldew to AC and hot water not working in the rooms to unresponsive staff. That has been since their so-called "renovations." I would never stay there.

As for casinos -- you need to be in Panama City, not Colón. Many of the hotels have casinos in Panama City. You can have cocktails, go from one hotel casino to another and feel safe. Not so in Colón. I have never heard of anyone goig to any casinos in Colón. I don't know of any casinos in Colón. That is probably the last place on earth I would want to show money. Colón is NOT a safe place for tourists or Panameños. If you're looking for a fun evening of gambling, I seriously hope you'll reconsider your choice of the Melia.

We stayed at Melia for honeymoon in feb. 2014 the Hotel was beautiful. I'm so glad I did not believe all the negative reviews. It was extremely clean and beautifully furnished. The art work imported from Spain created a royal feeling. The pool is one if the best I have seen outside of all inclusive resorts. The lake views were out of this world. For the person who stated there were no casinos in the area you are wrong. We went to the raddison one night which was a $10.00 cab ride. It was safe and fun. Downtown colon may not be the greatest but the Melia is no where near it. The Melia is a wonderful property and should not be overlooked. I'm so glad we stayed there.
