No its not. But then I guess coming from a Canadian to a Canadian you may think so. Playa Blanca is a stellar place to stay, especially if you want to avoid busses and busses of you North Americans trying to escape your crappy weather. Playa Blanca is small and much more intimate that what RD has become (too big and unappealing) To simply state that RD is better is unfair and in no way answers the question that was posed to the board.

Rob, try: http://www.playablancaresort.com/index_i.html

Click on "contact us". There's a 1-888 number or at the bottom of the page are clickable email addresses. There's one for "reservations".

Good luck and enjoy.

Rob,

I've been to Gamboa, the Decameron and Playa Blanca. Gamboa is very nice but way overpriced in my gringo opinion. They have some really neat tours you can take - aerial tram, monkey island, fishing on Gatun Lake - and its location on the canal is absolutely stunning. If you've ever seen the movie the Tailor of Panama with Pierce Brosnan - a couple scenes where filmed here so they try to make that the hook to get you to come and then stick you with the bill. Its closer to Panama City than the other two but still takes a while and costs a fortune in cab fare back and forth. The pool is very nice.

If I had my pick I'd probably go to Playa Blanca. Its small, intimate, the food is great, the price is perfect and it has everything that I need. Things to do during the day and at night but not over the top.

Take care and good luck.
