Selecting seats(bunks) in compartments for overnight train

I have been using the rzd English site, and reading the 'guide' on Trip Advisor but get stuck at working out seats. I will be travelling with my husband from St Pete to Yaroslavl in July. I was going to buy 2 lower bunks in second class compartment on either the 124(express) or the 045 (Firmny). However, the compartments are gender sensitive. What does that mean for us?

And I have no idea when selecting the bunks if they are lower or upper unless I assume the bottom numbers are lower bunks. However, when I selected 2 lower numbers it highlighted the top number!

Help needed please!

Should I select 1 'seat' at a time? And pay for each?

OMG!

What about express trains (102Я or 106Я )? 3h25m on way

Why do we need the bunлs? You can sit in a chair for 3 hours.

You can buy tickets at the ticket office or self-service terminal for an hour before departure.

What do you mean 3hr 25min? There doesn't appear to be a day train. The overnight train is the only one showing and takes 12 hrs or so.

Have you got the correct stations or have I got the wrong ones???

I think someone is looking at trains from Moscow to Yaroslavl.

Certain compartments are reserved for male or females only.

OMG indeed, I am consulting the map and it looks like the trip from SPB to Yaroslavl is the same distance as SPB to Moscow, how can it possibly take 12 hrs??

Good question. But apparently it does.

Easy, it just a question of the amount of stops the train has to make and from St Petersburg to Yaroslavl the train travels 700km yet from Moscow to Yaroslavl a mere 282km.

A general rule is even numbers are up, and odd numbers are low. Bunk 1 is always low, so does 3, 5, 7, 35...

Yes but when I select 2 consecutive odd numbers it highlights the even number in between them! What am I doing wrong?

Sorry!

It seemed to me you're looking for the Moscow-Yaroslavl!
