sightseeing the metro stations

Hello

Can anybody suggest 3 or 4 metro stations which are beautiful and interesting for a tourist to visit during the day? We would like to do a circular trip if possible. We are staying at Holiday Inn Lesnaya.

Also, are the Red Square closure dates out for May 3-8? We wanted to get some photos of the St Basil Cathedral lit up at night, but looks like the Red Square is closed off totally?

Thank u

Michelle

// We are staying at Holiday Inn Lesnaya.

Three stations are very near to yout hotel. On of those is next to your hotel door (Belorusskaya), two others are located one station away from Belorusskaya - Novoslobodskaya (ring line 5) and Mayakovskaya (green line 2). Also the must see station is Ploshad Revolutsii (blue line 6). It is next to the Red Square - if you go to Red Square from your hotel by Metro, you can go 3 stations from Belorusskaya to Teatralnaya by green line, then transfer to Ploshad Revolutsii, see it, then exit to surface and see Red Square.

In general it is worth to sede all stations of ring line + Mayakovskaya (green) + Ploshad Revolutsii (blue)

And photography is allowed inside the stations?

Photography is allowed for sure, but no tripods. It is usually crowded during the day, best go to take pictures afterwards during the late evening...

We may all be able to name a few favorites, BUT I strongly advise you use your very good friend Google to look up any of hundreds of overviews...this will also contain a ton of information on WHY visit such stations. Overall, doing this and not just for Metro will greatly enrich your visit rather than rely on some random comments here...

Michelle, if the Red Square is closed, you still can reach St Basil via Varvarka st. You will be able to see the other side of the cathedral, which is also very beautiful. It's a 10-15 minutes walk from Kitay-Gorod metro station.

Agree with 1. Plus Kievskaya station! (line 6 - the same with Novoslobodskaya and Belorusskaya).

6: There are no Moscow metro stations in the UNESCO world heritage list, sorry )

But re #6, I think you missed the point...that is, “advertising”...really no matter that the sparse info provided is not right...I only wish there were a way to shut this poster down...I will check with moderators, but in the meantime, I would simply advise other posters to use thei judgement and NOT leap to the conclusion that they should follow up with this person...
