Best Connection through Europe

Hello all,

I have enough miles on Continental/United to book a ticket to Europe. Unfortunately, it seems they do not fly directly to Moscow from NYC. Does anyone know what's the best train/bus connection between Moscow and any other major European city?

thanks,

Victoria

Look for a plane connection, forget bus/train. It's too long and too bothersome unless you happen to really like buses or trains.

Why not fly out of DC? If you are into buses you can take a cheap Chinatown bus or equivalent to DC. Or better yet catch a connecting flight from NYC - it will probably cost you the same points

For trains - Warsaw (need transit visa for Belarus, if US citizen) or Helsinki. Don't think United flies to Kiev. But DC seems obvious. Also, is you can get Star Alliance tickets for United miles - think of Singapore Airlines from Houston. This will be the most comfortable flight, but longer.

Technically - YES - United and SQ are member of the same star alliance, and IAH- DME is the most comfortable way that can be booked using FF points. BUT.............. the OP is asking about flying from NYC???!!!

Star alliance options for NYC-MOW are:

1/ Lufthansa via Frankfurt or Munich

2/ Swiss Air, connect in GEneva

Sure, Schonefeld, you completed my offer. I'm just thinking, maybe OP looks for something unusual or curious in flying :)...

BTW, I think Swiss can also connect in Zurich...

Yes, correct. The actual connection depends on the exact date of travel.
