Which restaurant is better: Hol’mgard or Detinets?

I am planning on bringing a group to Novgorod in late November and I was wondiering which of these two restaurants would be better for dinner: Hol'mgard or Detinets? I prefer an old charming restaurant that would impress my group, but I am open to your opinion. Any help is appreciated!

Hi, ptadin,

I would recommend Detinets, because it is the only restaurant, which keeps the tradition of cooking in pots. Besides it is situated within the Novgorod Kremlin, which creates additional atmosphere.

However, if you stay in Novgorod for more than one meal (say, for lunch and dinner), you can book both places.

Enjoy your trip

I agree with previos poster and also recommend Detinets - it is situated on the Kremlin grounds in the old tower. So, interior is very much ‘medieval’ - I am sure it will impress your group. Besides food is good – traditional Russian food, cooked according to the old recipes. Don’ forget to try typical Russian drinks – ‘sbiten’ and ’medovuha’.

Enjoy your trip!
