Quick questions please

Can anyone tell me if Russian stores and restaurants accept credit cards? I have heard they only accept rubles??? Are ATM's readily available? Do museums and Churches allow photograpy, with or without flash? Or, do they charge a small fee for taking photos? Do stores in Russia close down for a few hours around lunch time like the siesta?

Many thanks for your insight,

1. Most of the Russian stores and restaurants (but not many cafes) accept credit cards. American Express is usually not accepted. Sometimes you may be asked to show your ID while paying with credit card.

2. ATM’s are everywhere. Many of them have English menu

3. Most museums allow photography. Sometimes it is already included into the entrance fee (like in Catherine’s palace) sometimes there is extra charge – 50/100 rubles. Usually you can use flash if not taking pictures of paintings. Grand Palace of Peterhof does not allow flash photography (non-flash is ok). If you enter the church which functions as the museum (St.Isaak’s cathedral or Savior-on-the-Blood) taking pictures is allowed but if it is the active one providing services – no photos at all.

4. There is no siesta in Russia so most stores are open from 10.00am to 9.00pm without any breaks.

Have a great trip!
