One Night in St Pete

On our forthcoming Baltic Cruise we have the obligatory overnight stop in St Petersburg. I think I understand the situation regarding visas and have booked a tour with our cruise line (P&O).

In the evening we would like to go into the city but not to anything as heavy as ballet etc. Does anyone know if the cruise line will offer an evening tour perhaps just to a restaurant then a couple of pubs etc.

Thanks.

No, P&O's shore contractor does not offer evening programs that are not scheduled performances. You of course do not need a visa at all if you book with any authorized tour company so one can provide a car, driver and the needed guide(the guide is needed for visa free entry requirements of having direct supervision while off the ship) and use the time for anything you wish, shopping, pub hopping, night river cruise with dinner etc. At least one tour companies has such a program that is popular with people who want to experience contemporary St Petersburg since day programs usually stress history, museums and palaces. The most popular single activity for visitors on such an free-run tour is visiting one of the many English pubs where it is easy to meet locals and chat for hours over a few pints. They are fun, and very popular here.
