English-speaking tour guide

If you are looking for an excellent English-speaking tour guide in St. Petersburg, you will not find one better than Marina Wilson. Without her, we certainly would have been "lost in translation." English is not readily spoken outside hotels! Thanks to Marina, we ate wonderful Russian food, saw beautiful palaces, churches and art, learned the amazing history of this new (300-year-old) city and left with a friend in St. Petersburg. www.st-petersburg-visit.com

Actually English and other European languages are often spoken, particularly by people under 30 or so. St Petersburg is very easy to navigate without a translator/interpreter, if you had tried I am sure you would have found that to be the case.

On the other hand a good guide is a useful person to employ if more information is desired about the major attractions that is not in guidebooks since licensed guides are required to pass exams for each museum they are qualified for. If someone can find their way around Paris, they would have no problems with St Petersburg, despite it being much larger.
