Tour (cruise excursion) on a budget!

Is anyone booked onto or interested in joining Red October's "Supersaver 2 day bus tour?" It needs a minimum of 16 people and is a lot cheaper than the 2 day tours a lot of the main tour companies are offering - I do understand that $300 is good value for a private tour with a smaller group. However myself & partner are just loking to see the main sights on a budget - wouldn't mind a large group, or even just a one day tour.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated . Sam

Being a non-guaranteed departure tour it has proven to be less than popular so don't bet on it filling out the 16 people required.

It is a strange concept, if you book it and only 12 people signed up by the time you arrive, you do not get your tour or have an option to book a much more expensive private version for 2 on the spot. That puts people into a tough position, of either going back to the ship or accepting a price increase of $700 additional per couple. They have offered this for a couple years and except for possibly a large group, it never actually is conducted because who would book if there is no idea whether there is really going to be a tour until they are standing on the pier? They were trying to copy the success of the DenRus Complete St Petersburg which is still after 5 years the only guaranteed departure tour, which also offers more activities included plus all inclusive of other expenses for $325 per person. If only 2 people sign up, the tour is still conducted. Several tour companies have tried to get in on the demand for a fixed price and fixed itinerary program by offering a non-guaranteed departure group tour but in efforts to cut costs they usually leave out things that bring the final price up higher, such as lunches.

Ah I see. Think we may just have to scale down to a few excursions rather than go for the 2 day marathon. Thanks very much for the advice!
