What do the power sockets look like? Do they have 2 rectangular prongs eg | | as opposed to round ones???

Are there any pet shops in guangzhou?

Well that was a useless reply above! There are two kinds of outlets in China: 1 is 3 pin, exactly the same as Australia's and the other is the unearthed 2 parallel pins you describe. Converter/adapters are very cheap & available in normal supermarkets (around $Au2-3)

As for pet shops, yes there are pet shops in Guangzhou, more and more easily accessible now as it's more affordable to have pets now. There're also pet hospitals in city centre too. Guess you're a pet lover?
