Taxis in Guangzhou

Is it safe to take a taxi in Guangzhou? I will be going there by train from Hong Kong, and is thinking of taking a taxi from the train station to hotel.

Just want to know generally are taxis safe to take when in Guangzhou? Thanks

Taxis in GZ are very efficient. Do not worry about being overcharged as all are metered. For the adventurous and on tight budget I'd recommend taking GZ metro. Metro system is easy to master, once you know the route / line and where to stop, of course. You can ticket at the machine using yuan notes. In all, GZ public transport is the best way to discover the city.

The Metro has the added advantage of being quick & bilingual. Taxis can often get caught in the traffic chaos that is common in GZ. However on arrival a taxi is more convenient when you have luggage. Always use a clearly marked taxi and at train stations & airports ignore touts - real taxis do not tout for business. BTW you can also use yuan coins to buy Metro tickets.

They are safe and metered. Just that most drivers are from out of town and they don't know their way most of the time.
