Getting blood test while in Sapporo / Niseko

Hi,

I am holidaying in Sapporo / Niseko around the time of the snow festival. Due to a medical condition I will need to get a blood test and get the results sent back to my Australian doctors. What is the best way to do this while I am staying in Sapporo / Niseko.

Any advice appreciated.

Thanks.

The US Embassy publishes a list of English speaking hospitals/clincs:

tokyo.usembassy.gov/e/acs/tacs-7119.html

There are telephone numbers at each, so best to call first and see if they have someone available or make an appointment.

I don't think there is a hospital in Niseko, the nearest is Kutchan, probably it will be quickest and easiest to get your blood test taken in Sapporo.

Here is a link to an english website about health in Hokkaido, they have maps to hospitals in Hokkaido (including Sapporo) and an contact email. As the previous poster said, it will probably be much easier and quicker to make an appointment (or at least let them know you're coming). This website might be able to help you with that. You might want to let them know what the bloodtest is for, because there are specialised clinics that may make things easier or quicker for getting your results.

Make sure you've got all your travel insurance details with you, because you will probably have to pay.

Many of the major hospitals in Sapporo (and perhaps Kutchan) will have some english speaking medical staff.

Kutchan has English speaking staff - and in the ski season they even have an interpreter on call to help with foreign patients (usually accidents....)

But it is a small hospital and the front desk staff may not speak English..so making arrangements before you go with a Sapporo hospital is a better idea.
