Plenty to eat in Sapporo besides seafood items. You can eat beef, ramen, curry, burgers, etc.

jingisukan is very delicious. it's lamb bbq (named after genghis khan and the grill looks like a helmet). we had jingisukan for a last meal on one trip and weren't very excited to go but we were blown away. there are a few ramen alleys. sapporo is famous for miso ramen. also any dairy--raw chocolate, soft cream, pudding, cheesecake, milk, raw caramel etc is very popular in hokkaido. you can find all the shops in sapporo--hanabatake bokujo (my favorite), royce, koibito, rokkatei (marusei bata-sando is a popular treat).

otaru is a 30min train ride away. it's famous for sushi but also has a spot everyone takes photos at the canal/warehouse. there's a lot of bakery/cafes there including the ones mentioned above, plus milan shu cream (that cream puff pastry).

If you are going to do the Singaporean thing; then Sapporo station is where the big shopping centers are situated. Lots of food and shopping at the station and don't forget to give some time for the factory outlet in Chitose.

In my opinion, Otaru is a nice town with good scenic spots and a good atmosphere. However, the sushi shops at Sushi-dori is overrated and overpriced. Stick with the cafes instead and enjoy your sushi in Sapporo.

For shopping, you can shop til you drop between Sapporo and Susukino.
